Its been a crazy year last year... preparing for our renewal of vows on January 3 2013. We got re-married... :)  it was so much work but thank God it was a success. We never thought that preparing a wedding can be so much work until we prepared ours half the world away in only 5months. Special thanks to Mama, Papa, Kuya and Joann for all your help in the preparation and for accommodating us on our visit.

We are now a little caught up, so we will do our very best to update our blog more. For the meantime... our Facebook gets updated more since both of us access that.

Thanks everyone,

Dodgie & Frances

A Retrospect...

Why I love my Olympus... a retrospect.. Camera manufacturers putting out "better" cameras quicker than "photographers" actually learning the craft... It used to take decades for actual development in photography, photographers had the chance to actually develop with the new technology...stunning photographs are made in the process.. Everyday as I walk into my room filled with 36x24" fine art prints, I get to think and appreciate my older work. 3 of these artworks were created by my trusty Olympus E1, 5mp, 10 year old camera... I love photography and the E1 has been instrumental as I developed into who I am today as an artist. As I browse my print portfolios, I can tell you what camera I used to create that image. It was fun shooting various cameras back when I was starting out...my Canon EOX IX was my very first camera, shooting APS. Then my Canon A5 was my very first digital camera, the files are so small not nearly enough to fill the screen of our iMac now. But with these "tools" I learned photography, got criticized and in a few occasions felt insulted but all these got me to strive and understand the art and craft. In 2005, I got a chance to acquire a Sony dsc-f717. This is a camera I love very much and have a huge part in journey as a photographer. The first camera I printed fine art images up to 12x18". In that same year I invested in my first DSLR system, I went with Olympus because I LOVE the Olympus E1 and also purchased an Olympus E300 as my second body.

I got the Olympus bug and got a second E1 body not long after... but I also had fun with LOTS of various cameras... 2006-2008, this was the formative years in this craft... I travelled lots and still having FUN with different cameras... I invested on my second DSLR system, Nikon. My D2Xs and Nikon primes were so highly praised because it was Nikon's best and yet I still reach for my Olympus E1 for a lot of my outings. Why?.... simple I feel much more at home with my Olys. In these years I had no less than 20 cameras in my collection..some of my faves are the Nikon 8800, Olympus c8080, c7070, c5050, c5060, Panasonic FZ50, Sigma DP1, Sony f828 and Sony R1. I played with so many different cameras, I even went into my 3rd DSLR system, Canon. The Canon Rebel and the 20D are nothing like my Nikon and Olympus kits but I enjoyed it for a little while. During these 3 years... I managed to bagged a few awards from Destination Winnipeg's Picture Winnipeg photo contest. When I look back... with as many as 20 photos recognized in the competition, nearly all of these photos were created with an Olympus camera.

I was asked by one of my closest friends to be his wedding photographer... I made his Mom cried as they viewed their wedding album, photographs created by my Olympus E1 and Olympus E330. That was the most rewarding time in my photography journey, that photographs can truly deliver emotions. 2009, I sold all my Nikon and Canon gear as I went all Olympus. This was the year I also started my business as a professional photographer. I started by selling my collection of fine art prints, currently these are available in 3 galleries in Winnipeg and 1 retail store. I just set out one day with my print portfolio to approach galleries and with God's grace I am blessed with great galleries representing my work, The Birchwood Art Gallery, Wayne Arthur Gallery and Tapestry in Glass Studio. 2009-2011, a lot of blessings in forms of overseas projects, weddings...workshops and a lot of fashion work. Late 2009 was also very special in a personal note with Frances Dator for a love story that I treasure so much. In 2009 as I registered my studio I upgraded to 2 Olympus E3 with my trusty 2 E1s as mains and backup bodies 2 E520s, 2 E420s. 2012, was my last overseas project and the year my wife, Frances Dator joined my here in Winnipeg as my co- primary photographer. My university buddy Aliesh also is part of our studio as one of our senior photographers. Lots of blessings...weddings, fashion and family portrait sessions. 2013, will be a a year I will revisit my artistic roots as I update our fine art albums. Looking forward to an amazing year as God bestows us with more blessings.

As of the time of this writing... I do still love my 10 year old Olympus E1, we have 2 them...with our workhorse 3 E3s and joining the fleet would be 2 OMD EM5s. Me and Frances have our 2 EP1s if out and about on our personal time. We have a fleet of Olympus pro-lenses, Sigma 30 and 50 F1.4 twins... and our micro 4/3rds fast primes. We also have the Olympus OM2s with a dozen OM primes and our Konica Omega medium format camera...for shooting film. Why write a story of my journey in photography...? LOL... just passing by time as my lovely wife enjoys her TV shows. But this story is not in anyway funded my Olympus...in no way I get anything from the brand,... wait, hmmm..just the reliability of their products and the amazing photographs they create in my years as a photographer.

Most if not nearly all of the photographs in our portfolios are created with Olympus camera, digital and film. Happy reading ;)
